SWWIC normally support two charities every year, each running over a 2 year period.
In 2019 we started our 2 year support of ‘Sophie’s Smiles’ – a non-profit organisation set up in memory of Dan and Andrea Atkin’s daughter, Sophie, who passed away at 4 months old. Dan & Andrea wanted to help the charities that supported them through their difficult time so hence ‘Sophie’s Smiles’ was born. We will, once again, be sending them a financial contribution at the close of our financial year.
So as this support draws to a close, we have been thinking about how we might respond to the past year and help the wider community. It has clearly been a difficult time for a number of local groups, not just charities.
We discussed this at committee level and our proposal for the next 12 months is to continue our 2nd year of support for ‘Hugs from Henry’ but to also make some smaller contributions to local community groups that, without help, may disband without extra financial support (for example a local Brownies Group, or perhaps a Youth Centre or a local sports club?).
This is where you come in – if you or your families are members of such groups that need help then please put these forward as a suggestion.
Please send us a message through our contact us page if your community group is struggling. All we ask is that you add a bit of background so that we know a little more about the group (it doesn’t need to be an essay!). We will then review these as a committee and think about how we might help.
We appreciate that support may be required more immediately, so the intention is to review our finances and make the donations during the course of the year rather than waiting until 2022 to make a contribution.
Obviously there is a limit to our financial contributions – and membership has been our only source of income for the past year – so please consider re-joining this fantastic organisation sooner rather than later to enable us to maintain our ability to support others.
We hope that you agree that this is a worthwhile way to deal with the situation we have all found ourselves in over the past year. A little help to some of these organisations will go a long way!
