What a morning!
SWWIC members had the pleasure of visiting Meadow View, the new £10 million adult care facility currently being delivered in Plymouth for Plymouth City Council.
The project will provide a purpose-built home for adults with complex needs and learning disabilities once complete, creating a lasting positive impact for individuals, families and the wider Plymouth community.
The visit gave members the opportunity to see the progress of the project from its inception through to the current stage of construction, as well as hear more about the collaboration that has helped drive its success so far. With a real focus on community, sustainability and delivering a facility that will make a meaningful difference, it is easy to see why Meadow View is creating such a buzz.
Members were able to explore the site first-hand and learn more about the construction journey, timber frame installation and the sustainability features being incorporated into the build. It was a brilliant behind-the-scenes look at a very special project and a reminder that construction is about so much more than buildings. It is about people, communities and creating places that can change lives.
There was also plenty of hands-on fun, with guests given a crash course in bricklaying by The Plym Group Ltd. Results may have been mixed, but we are told there were some very promising future bricklayers among the group!
We are delighted that the team have offered to welcome us back in the autumn as the project nears completion, giving members the chance to see the finished facility and witness the transformation for themselves. We can’t wait.
Site visits take time and energy to arrange and deliver, and we are hugely grateful to Devon Contractors, Plymouth City Council, The Plym Group Ltd and Stride Treglown for taking the time to share this wonderful project with us.
A huge thank you also goes to Sarah Jones and Cliff from Plymouth City Council, Sarah Lee RIBA from Stride Treglown, Steve Rosewell from Devon Contractors, and Daniel Walker and Peter Bills from The Plym Group Ltd for sharing their knowledge, experience and passion for the industry.
A special thank you must also go to Carla Wilkinson for making all the arrangements and being such a brilliant host and ambassador for the industry.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such an enjoyable and insightful visit.
Our next event is at the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre in St Austell on 29 July. Booking opens shortly and, as always, everyone is welcome to attend.
