Members and guests met on May 6th 2022 at Pier Masters, Plymouth for the Annual General Meeting. Such a wonderful venue with wide reaching views across the Barbican area, we were really spoilt!
Reports were given by each of the committee, summarising the events of 2021 including:
• Glayne Price – Outgoing Chair’s report (overview)
• Thelma Sorensen – Honorary President’s report
• Kate Mills – Vice Chair/Incoming Chair report
• Emma Martin – Treasurer’s report
• Nicola Read – Membership Coordinator’s report
• Emily Scammell – Comms officer report
• Olivia Whiting – Marketing / Events report
Copies of all the reports can be found here.
Glayne Price took on the role of SWWIC Chair for a ‘couple of years’ but this turned into an epic and we cannot be more proud of her leadership, commitment and passion. After 6 years of outstanding service to SWWIC, Glayne handed over the reins to Kate Mills and was presented with a tree to plant in her beautiful garden.
Thelma Sorensen, Honorary President, has been a massive influence on the growth of SWWIC over many years, so many we can’t count them all! Never one to take the limelight, a rose was presented to Thelma to celebrate a personal milestone that she had kept a secret!
Despite challenging times and little opportunity to raise funds for our charities, Hugs for Henry and Sophies Smiles, a cheque for £1000 was handed to representatives of each. One of the key objectives for SWWIC as an organisation is to raise much needed funds for local charities whilst enjoying the company and camaraderie of fellow construction colleagues. We really appreciate the time taken by members to support our events as all proceeds go directly to those who need it most.
Before the meeting closed, we had an update from Emma Hewitt and Morven Maclean of Building Plymouth. Following on from the amazing Mission Giant Squid event in 2018, Mission Mammoth STEAMFEST will take place at The Box, week commencing July 11th 2022. Led by Building Plymouth, Construction professionals have set an imaginary mammoth challenge for local primary school children to help design a new ‘Mammoth House’ to accommodate and reunite the well-loved Mildred the mammoth who is currently living in The Box, with her mammoth friend George who is coming to live in Plymouth.
The meeting came to a close at 10am after a super breakfast and time to catch up with friends old and new.
