There were plenty of boots, brilliant conversations and a glimpse inside some beautiful new homes as SWWIC headed to Blackwater, Cornwall, for our latest site visit.
On Thursday 3 September, members and guests were welcomed by the team at Treveth for a behind-the-scenes look at Hwel Kan, its new residential development in the village of Blackwater.
Hwel Kan is an affordable-led development comprising 32 one, two and four-bedroom homes, including bungalows and dormer bungalows. The development incorporates a mix of open market sale, private rent, shared ownership and affordable rent, with a focus on creating high-quality, sustainable homes for people in Cornwall.
Getting a closer look
One of the things we love most about our SWWIC site visits is the opportunity to see projects at different stages of their development, and Hwel Kan certainly delivered.
During our tour, we were able to step inside homes that are nearing completion, as well as some that have already been finished, giving us a real sense of how the development has progressed from construction through to completed homes.
A particular highlight was visiting the Kynance show home, a four-bedroom detached property designed to demonstrate the layout, finish and specification available at Hwel Kan.
It was fantastic to be able to experience the homes first-hand and hear more about the thinking behind the development, rather than simply seeing the finished project from the outside.
Building homes and communities
Sustainability is an important part of Treveth's approach to Hwel Kan and its wider developments across Cornwall. Treveth is a certified B Corporation and describes delivering lower-carbon developments and homes for local people as central to its work.
For our members, the visit was also a valuable opportunity to hear directly from those involved in delivering the scheme, ask questions and better understand some of the considerations that go into creating new residential communities across the region.
And, of course, no SWWIC event would be complete without plenty of conversation along the way.
As we made our way around the site, there was lots of time to catch up with familiar faces, make new connections and share experiences with other women working across the construction and built environment sectors.
