Last Thursday morning, South West Women in Construction (SWWIC) held their Annual General Meeting at Seco Lounge, where members enjoyed a delightful breakfast and a vibrant atmosphere. The meeting saw an excellent turnout with both familiar faces and new members joining the community.
The AGM began with updates from all committee members, highlighting the progress and achievements of the group over the past year. A heartfelt goodbye was extended to our Vice Chair, Kat Archer, who has been an integral part of the committee however she is off to service the community as a volunteer parademic and we wish her well in her new adventure. As part of committee updates, we also announced an opening for a Communications and Marketing role, encouraging members with social media and website skills to get involved and contribute to SWWIC’s ongoing success.
One of the highlights of the morning was the presentation of charitable donations. SWWIC proudly awarded cheques of £1,500 each to Jeremiah’s Journey and Little Valley Animal Shelter, demonstrating the group’s commitment to supporting meaningful local causes. This comes on top of the £600 raised for the Women with Influence Lunch (WWIL) raffle last year and the incredible £1,300 raised by Emma Martin and Kate Wooton for Jeremiah’s Journey through their participation in the Plymouth Half Marathon.
Looking ahead, the discussion turned to expanding the group’s popular monthly running club by introducing more sporting activities to the calendar. Suggestions like golf, football, and wild swimming were met with enthusiasm and will likely be added as new ways for members to connect and stay active. We are kicking this off with a driving range session on the 12th June where we will have a golf pro on hand to provide top tips and advice. Look out for the invite coming soon.
The group also brainstormed ideas for construction site visits, aiming to provide members with opportunities for learning and networking within the industry. Furthermore, it was agreed to host a Summer Drinks Social Event on a Friday evening in September, offering members a chance to unwind together in a relaxed setting.
To keep members closer to our updates we have launched a SWWIC WhatsApp community which will be used to post event updates and news. You can join the channel here.
